💪Zero to Hero: Your HockeyStack Getting Started Guide
Welcome to HockeyStack! This guide will walk you through everything you need to get started, even if you're not a tech whiz. We'll cover the basics and show you how to quickly gain valuable insights from your marketing data, focusing on defining KPI goals, setting up unified channels, and building your first attribution report.
Step 1: Understanding the Big Picture
Before diving into setup, let's understand what HockeyStack does.
What is HockeyStack? HockeyStack connects your marketing activities (website visits, ads, content) with sales outcomes (deals, revenue), revealing what's truly effective. It helps you grasp the customer journey and measure each touchpoint's impact.
Why is this important? Identify your best-performing marketing, optimize campaigns, boost ROI, and generate more revenue.
Step 2: Installing the Tracking Pixel
To collect data, install the tracking pixel (a small code snippet) on your website.
Get your snippet: In your HockeyStack account, find your unique tracking snippet under Settings > Domain Details > Integration Snippet (or during the initial integration if you're just starting).
Install the snippet: Copy and paste it into your website's HTML

. WordPress users can use plugins for easier installation. Ask your developer if you need help.
Find platform-specific guides (WordPress, React), troubleshooting, and no-code GTM installation.
Step 3: Defining Your KPI Goals
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are the critical actions you want to track (e.g., form submissions, demo requests, purchases). Defining goals lets HockeyStack measure and attribute conversions.

Access Goals: Go to "Goals" in your HockeyStack dashboard.
Define Goals: Click "+" to add a goal. Define goals based on:
Page Views: Visiting a specific page (e.g., thank you page).
Clicks: Clicking a button or link (e.g., "Request Demo").
Custom Events: Use code to track unique actions (work with your developer).
Specify Details: Select the page or element to track using "Exact" or "Contains" matching.

Step 4: Defining Your Unified Channel Property
↓ Watch our awesome Webinar on an explanation and how to do this here! ↓
This crucial step helps categorize your marketing for unified analysis. A "Defined Property" in HockeyStack helps achieve this.
What's a Unified Channel? Grouping similar marketing activities (e.g., "Paid Social" for Facebook/LinkedIn Ads) for a holistic performance overview.
Creating the Property: This may involve technical setup (consult your developer or HockeyStack support).
Simplified Example: A "Marketing Channel" property might categorize "facebook.com," "linkedin.com" as "Paid Social," while "google" (organic) or UTMs are "Organic Search" or "Email."

Step 5: Building Your First Attribution Report
Now, see which channels are driving conversions.
Navigate to Reports: Go to the "Reports" section.
Create a Report: Click "+" to add a report. Select a relevant type (e.g., "Table," "Funnel").
Select KPIs: Choose the KPIs you defined (Step 3).
Group by Unified Channel: Select your "Marketing Channel" property (or equivalent, from Step 4) to see performance by channel.
